Gambrell Health Services Medical Document Reviewers provides a comprehensive Veteran's Disability Review — an in-depth, nurse-conducted examination of the veteran's complete medical record, service history, and current VA rating decisions. We evaluate whether the existing rating accurately reflects the documented medical evidence, identify conditions that may warrant a higher rating or have not yet been service-connected, and provide a clear written assessment that veterans and their advocates can act on.

This service is distinct from our Veterans Disability Claim Review in that it focuses on evaluating an existing rating or set of ratings — assessing whether what the VA has already decided is supported by, or inconsistent with, the full medical and service record.

What We Do

• Current Rating Decision Review

  We review the veteran's existing VA rating decisions, rating code sheets, and decision letters to understand what conditions have been service-connected, at what ratings, and on what basis — identifying any decisions that appear inconsistent with the medical evidence.

• Complete Medical Record Review

  We conduct a thorough review of all available medical records — both VA and civilian — to assess whether the documented severity of each condition is accurately reflected in the current disability rating.

• Underrating Identification

  We identify conditions that appear to be rated lower than the medical evidence supports, referencing the VA's rating criteria to explain specifically why a higher rating may be warranted based on documented symptoms, functional limitations, and clinical findings.

• Unrated and Missed Condition Identification

  We identify conditions documented in the medical record that have not been service-connected or rated — including conditions that may qualify as secondary disabilities or that were overlooked in prior claim adjudications.

• Worsening and Progression Analysis

  For veterans whose conditions have deteriorated since their last rating evaluation, we document the progression of symptoms and functional decline in the medical record — supporting a claim for an increased rating based on worsening.

• Total Disability (TDIU) Assessment

  Where the combined impact of service-connected disabilities prevents the veteran from maintaining substantially gainful employment, we identify and document the evidence in the record that may support a claim for Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability.

• Written Review Report with Recommendations

  All findings are delivered in a clear, organized written report with record citations and specific recommendations — identifying which ratings to challenge, which conditions to add, and what additional evidence may strengthen the veteran's overall claim.

Why It Matters

VA disability ratings directly determine the monthly compensation a veteran receives — and the difference between a 50% and a 70% rating, or between a 70% combined rating and a 100% rating, can amount to thousands of dollars per year in benefits.
